Places to Visit

Tigress Nest

Is one of the holiest place in Bhutan.The monastery is preached on the high granite cliff overlooking the northern Paro valley.the place is especially venerated because of its association with Guru Rinpoche,who is said to have flown to Paro Takshang in the form of Dorji Drolo, mounted on a flaming Dakini-Tigree in the 746AD

Druk Choeding Temple

Built in 1525, this town temple was one of the prince-abbots of the ralung in Tibet and the ancestor of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal .

Drugyel Dzong

This Dzong, with the delightful village nestling at its foot, was built in 1646by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal( founder of Bhutan) to commemorate his victory over the Tibetan invasion, “Druk” means the land of the Thunder Dragon or the land of Dragon people; “Gyel” means victory. The Dzong caught by fire in the year 1951 and now only remains as ruin. This Dzong is built at a strategic point where the the route from Tibet enters Paro valley.Later when the invasion was ceased the route was used for trade between Tibet and Bhutan.on a clear day one could see the majestic Mountain Jomolhari from the village,below the Dzong.

Paro Dzong

It is also known as the “fotress constructed on the heap of jewels”. it was built in 1646 to depend from internal and external invaders. The approach to the Dzong is through a traditional  covered cantilever bridge, a walk through the bridge to the Dzong,over a stone inlaid path,offers a good view of the architectural wonder of the Dzong as well as the life around it.
