07 Nights 08 Days Tour

This tour is a 07 Nights 08 Days journey through Bhutan, starting in Paro and covering Thimphu, Punakha, Wangdue, Trongsa, Haa and back to Paro. Highlights include historic dzongs, sacred monasteries, the scenic Phobjikha Valley and panoramic views from Dochula and Chelela passes. The trip concludes with a hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery before departure.

In essence: A cultural and scenic circuit through western Bhutan, blending heritage, spirituality, and breathtaking landscapes in just over a week.

itinerary

the flight takes you over the great Himalayas, offering the most beautiful scenery of the world’s highest glacial peaks. As you enter Paro valley, you will see the Paro Dzong (Spiritual and temporal), the national museum and the Paro town. Your representative from ER tours and treks will welcome you at the airport and drive you through the fascinating valley of Paro to Thimphu, the capital. The distance from airport to Thimphu is 55kms and takes about 2 hours in car, along the Pachu river and Wangchu river and through paddy fields, orchards and farms.Visit Tashicho Dzong, the center of government and the monastic order. Independent tour of the town. Visit the Memorial Chorten, a stupa conscpetualised by the Third King to ward off negative influences. It was later built in his memory by the late Royal Great Grandmother, Ashi Phuntsho Choden Wangchuck.  Visit another place from where you can get a good overview of the Thimphu valley is from the Buddha point (Kuensel Phodrang). It is again a short drive from the town. You can pay your obeisance and offer prayers to the Buddha, the largest statue in the country and then walk around and take a glimpse of the valley O/N at Thimphu

Visit the Motithang Mini Zoo where you can see the National animal Takin research centre where these odd animals graze peacefully in a small protected park. Visit the Memorial Chorten, a stupa conscpetualised by the Third King to ward off negative influences. It was later built in his memory by the late Royal Great Grandmother, Ashi Phuntsho Choden Wangchuck. Visit to theNational School of Traditional Arts, where young Bhutanese learn the art of Buddhist thangkha painting; the workshops for mask making and fine metal craft, weaving, ceramics and paper. Visit another place from where you can get a good overview of the Thimphu valley is from the Buddha point(Kuensel Phodrang). It is again a short drive from the town. You can pay your obeisance and offer prayers to the Buddha, the largest statue in the country and then walk around and take a glimpse of the valley. Drive to WangduePhodrang. After dinner, transfer back to hotel in WangduePhodrang.

After breakfast, visit the Punakha Dzong, a massive structure built at the junction of two rivers. It was the capital of Bhutan until 1955, and still serves as the winter residence of the monk body. The first King, Ugyen Wangchuck was crowned here in 1907. Drive to Wangdue, visit Chimi lhakhang, a temple built by Lam Drukpa Kuenley, the Divine Madman and renowned for blessing barren women with fertility. Drive to Gangtey, in the mountains east of Wangdue Phodrang lies the beautiful Phobjikha valley, this quiet, remote valley is the winter home of black necked cranes, which migrate from the arid plains of Tibet in the north, to pass the winter months in a milder climate. Drive to Trongsa, crossing 3,300m high Pele la pass. After dinner, transfer back to hotel in Trongsa.

After breakfast, visit to Trongsa Dzong, it was Built in 1648, the seat of power over central and eastern Bhutan.  Both the first and second kings of Bhutan ruled the country from this ancient seat. visit to this former watchtower provides visitors with an insight into the significance of Trongsa in Bhutan’s history. As of date the Ta Dzong of Trongsa is the most fascinating museum of the nation.Visit to the Thruepang Palace, the palace was built by the second king and was the birth place of the third. Currently it used by reigning monarchs when on official visits to Trongsa. The building is closed to the public and like many of the early palaces is unimposing, but from an architectural and historical point of view it is still worth viewing. Back to Thimphu, with a short stop at Dochula pass (3,050m) where if the weather is good, enjoy spectacular view of mountains. After dinner, transfer back to hotel in Thimphu.

After breakfast, drive from Thimphu to Haa via the Pa Chhu and Wang Chhu Confluence at Chuzom is around 3-4 hours. Haa Valley is situated in the north-west of Bhutan bordering Tibet. Extraordinarily beautiful Haa Valley is newly opened to tourists. With its Three prominent hills representing three guardian deities, this valley is said to have been named by Guru Padma Sambava himself – Haa means “mystical”. Stroll around the small and beautiful township of Haa. After lunch drive to the Chelela pass at 3988m en route to Paro. Weather allowing, from the pass you will have panoramic view of the two valleys of Paro and Haa and of course, the beautiful Himalayan ranges of Bhutan. You will have the most Scenic view of Mt.Jumolhari. After dinner, transfer back to hotel in Paro.

After breakfast, drive to Drukgyel Dzong, the fort of the victorious Drukpas. Although gutted by a fire, this fort is renowned as the stand from which several Tibetan invasions were repulsed. To the north can be seen in all its majesty, the dome of sacred Mt. Chomolhari or the abode of the “mountain of goddess”. Drive to the foot of the Taktshang cliff before walking uphill for 2 hours to reach this monastery, giddily perched on a sheer 800m rock face. Taktshang means ‘Tiger’s Nest’ as legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava flew to this spot on the back of a tigress in the eight century. He meditated here making this temple a sacred pilgrimage destination for Buddhists. The trip to and fro takes 4 hours for which riding ponies can be arranged. After dinner, transfer back to hotel in Paro.

After breakfast drive to the airport for flight to onward destination. Representative of ER tours and treks will bid you farewell.
