This tour is a 09-day journey through Bhutan, starting in Paro and covering the country’s key valleys and landmarks before ending back in Paro. Highlights include Thimphu’s cultural sites, Punakha and Wangdue’s historic dzongs, the spiritual heartland of Bumthang, and the scenic Phobjikha and Haa valleys. The trip concludes with a hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery and a visit to the ancient Kyichu Lhakhang.

In essence: It’s a cultural, spiritual, and scenic journey across western and central Bhutan, offering an immersive glimpse into the kingdom’s heritage and landscapes.

the flight takes you over the great Himalayas, offering the most beautiful scenery of the world’s highest glacial peaks. As you enter Paro valley, you will see the Paro Dzong (Spiritual and temporal), the national museum and the Paro town. Your representative from ER tours and treks will welcome you at the airport and drive you through the fascinating valley of Paro to Thimphu, the capital. The distance from airport to Thimphu is 55kms and takes about 2 hours in car, along the Pachu river and Wangchu river and through paddy fields, orchards and farms.Visit Tashicho Dzong, the center of government and the monastic order. Independent tour of the town. Visit the Motithang Mini Zoo where you can see the National animal Takin research centre where these unique animals graze peacefully in a small protected park. Visit the Memorial Chorten, a stupa conscpetualised by the Third King to ward off negative influences. It was later built in his memory by the late Royal Great Grandmother, Ashi Phuntsho Choden Wangchuck. Visit to the National School of Traditional Arts, where young Bhutanses learn the art of Buddhist thangkha painting; the workshops for mask making and fine metal craft, weaving, ceramics and paper. Visit another place from where you can get a good overview of the Thimphu valley is from the Buddha point (Kuensel Phodrang). It is again a short drive from the town. You can pay your obeisance and offer prayers to the Buddha, the largest statue in the country and then walk around and take a glimpse of the valley O/N at Thimphu

After breakfast, drive to WangduePhodrang, with a short stop at Dochula pass (3,050m) where if the weather is good, enjoy spectacular view of mountains. Drive to Punakha, on the way pass by WangduePhodrang, remote valley is the winter home of black necked cranes, which migrate from the arid plains of Tibet in the north, to pass the winter months in a milder climate. Visit Chimi Lhakhang, a temple built by Lam Drukpa Kuenley, the Divine Madman and renowned for blessing barren women with fertility. After dinner, transfer back to hotel in WangduePhodrang.

After breakfast, drive to Bumthang, crossing 3,300m high Pele la pass. Drive to Phobjikha, on the way pass by an ancient Newari stupa like those found in Nepal. Visit to Ta Dzong, this watchtower, which once guarded Trongsa Dzong from internal rebellion, stands on a promontory above the town. Arrive to Chumey Valley, the valley floors a pattern of golden fields and clusters of village homes built in the traditional style unique to Bhutan. Visit the Handicraft Shop at Chumey Valley. After dinner, transfer back to hotel in Bumthang.

After breakfast, drive to Jakar Dzong, the Jakar Dzong or the “Castle of the White Bird” dominates the Chamkhar valley and overlooks the town.  After lunch, visit to Kurje Lhakhang, it was comprises three temples.  The one on the right was built in 1652 against the rock face where Guru Padmasambhava meditated in the 8th century.  The middle temple is built on the site of a cave containing a rock with the imprint of the Guru’s body, and is therefore considered to be the most holy.  The temple on the left was built in the 1990s by H.M. Ashi Kesang Wangmo Wangchuck, Royal Grandmother.  These three temples are surrounded by a 108 chorten wall. Membar Tsho (“Burning Lake“), in the third valley of  Bumthang, is heavily associated with Guru Rimpoche, who brought Buddhism to Bhutan and discovered his first terma( the spiritual hidden treasures) in the lake in 1475. Finally, visit to the Cheese Factory in the town. Here you can see the most primitive production methods and the most pollution-free cheese food. After dinner, transfer back to hotel in Bumthang.

After breakfast, back to Wangdue, on the way pass by Trongsa. Visit to the Trongsa Dzong,  it was the seat of power over central and eastern Bhutan.  Both the first and second kings of Bhutan ruled the country from this ancient seat.  All four kings were invested as Trongsa Penlop (“governor”) prior to ascending the throne.  Pass by the Phobjika Valley, the Phobjikha Valley is part of the Black Mountains National Park, one of Bhutan’s most important wildlife sanctuaries. Each winter it is home to a flock of 300 rare and endangered black-necked cranes which arrive from Tibet. After dinner, transfer back to hotel in WangduePhodrang.

After breakfast, drive to Punakha. Punakha has been inextricably linked to some of the most momentous events in the Bhutanese history and deserves its reputation as one of the most beautiful and significant regions at the heart of Bhutanese culture.  Visit to the Punkha Dzong, placed strategically at the junction of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers, the dzong was built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to serve as the religious and administrative seat of the region. It was here that the dual system of government was introduced in the 17th century and in 1907, enthroned the first King Gongsr Ugyen Wangchuck. Damaged over the centuries by four catastrophic fires and an earthquake, the dzong has been fully restored in the recent years by the 4th King Jigme Singye Wangchuck. Continue to Thimphu. After dinner, transfer back to hotel in Thimphu.

After breakfast, drive from Thimphu to Haa via the Pa Chhu and Wang Chhu Confluence at Chuzom is around 3-4 hours. Haa Valley is situated in the north-west of Bhutan bordering Tibet. Extraordinarily beautiful Haa Valley is newly opened to tourists. With its Three prominent hills representing three guardian deities, this valley is said to have been named by Guru Padma Sambava himself – Haa means “mystical”. Stroll around the small and beautiful township of Haa. After lunch drive to the Chelela pass at 3988m en route to Paro. Weather allowing, from the pass you will have panoramic view of the two valleys of Paro and Haa and of course, the beautiful Himalayan ranges of Bhutan. You will have the most Scenic view of Mt.Jumolhari. After dinner, transfer back to hotel in Paro.

After breakfast, visit one of the oldest landmarks in Bhutan. The 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang was one of the 108 temples built in the Himalayas by Tibetan King, Songtsen Gembo. It is revered as one of the most holy shrines in Bhutan and embodies the arrival of Buddhism here. Drive to the foot of theTaktshang cliff before walking uphill for 2 hours to reach this monastery, giddily perched on a sheer 800m rock face. Taktshang means ‘Tiger’s Nest’ as legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava flew to this spot on the back of a tigress in the eight century. He meditated here making this temple a sacred pilgrimage destination for Buddhists. The trip to and fro takes 4 hours for which riding ponies can be arranged. After dinner, transfer back to hotel in Paro.

After breakfast drive to the airport for flight to onward destination. Representative from ER tours and treks will bid you farewell
